Excavating Contemporary Archeology in Marseille with the MUCEM

The Excavating Contemporary Archaeology project is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and Year of Cultural Heritage.i

Since September, Mucem has been involved in a new European project, entitled Excavating Contemporary Archaeology. The project is mainly targeted at young people aged 11 to 15, but is also for artists and the general public. The aim is to explore existing links between contemporary artistic creation and archaeology, in the broadest sense of the term meaning traces from the past. The project will span two years and feature two artist residencies, an exhibition and creation of an information booklet for each partner venue. Excavating Contemporary Archaeology is funded by the EU Creative Europe programme as part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage. The project brings together three other partners: Kunsthal Aarhus in Denmark, Point Center for Contemporary Art in Cyprus and AIR Antwerpen in Belgium.
