WHAT'S ON

WE ARE FOOTBALL

Marseille, the 2017 European Capital of Sport, has brought football to the Mucem, paying tribute to the sport and its popular culture. How do the words "social", "cultural" and "political" fit alongside the word "football"? How about forgetting everything we think we know about football?

PALAZZO DORIA (Genova, Italy)

The recently renovated semi-permanent exhibition of the Mucem's Mediterranean Gallery presents 350 artworks and documents illustrating the "CONNECTIVITIES" between some of the Mediterranean's important port cities. Amongst the most striking pieces is the banner of the Battle of Lepanto, in silk decorated with the symbols of the Ottoman Empire. As explained by the curator, Myriame Morel-Deledalle, "This banner is a trophy of war, the victory of the Christian fleet over the Turkish one, crowning the success of the Holy League established between the Papal States and Venice. It is  a very delicate, special and magnificent piece of art, lent to us by Palazzo Doria.” Don't miss it!

BETWEEN FRIENDS

SABRINA GRASSI EXPLAINED
BILINGUAL DOCUMENT

On November 10th, curator Sabrina Grassi led 40 of us through her original show. The questions overflowed with the wine at the cocktail party that followed in Mucem's VIP room. Many thanks to our partners MAABN and UCCCAB for this successful event.

OIB STUDENTS VOLUNTEER AT
THE INTERNATIONAL CIRCLE

It's a first in Marseille! Volunteer work in English for English Section students! No longer do they have to leave the country for the community service hours so necessary for their college applications. Thanks to friend Roseline Hardman, the project got off to a good start this summer and it will continue throughout 2018.
