PALAZZO DORIA (Genova, Italy)
The
recently renovated semi-permanent exhibition of the Mucem's
Mediterranean Gallery presents 350 artworks and
documents illustrating the "CONNECTIVITIES" between some
of the Mediterranean's important port cities. Amongst the
most striking pieces is the banner of the Battle of Lepanto, in
silk decorated with the symbols of the Ottoman Empire. As
explained by the curator, Myriame Morel-Deledalle, "This
banner is a trophy of war, the victory of the Christian fleet
over the Turkish one, crowning the success of the Holy League
established between the Papal States and Venice. It is a very
delicate, special and magnificent piece of art, lent to us by Palazzo
Doria.” Don't miss it!
